Building owners continue to recognize the importance of sustainable construction business practices.
Walsh Door and Hardware carries a full line of weather-stripping that can improve the insulation of entry areas. Proper weather-stripping on doors and frames helps prevent drafts and eliminates frost build up. In addition, we provide energy efficient hollow metal doors. Doors with polyurethane cores provide exceptional thermal resistance and total surface support for impact resistance.
Walsh Door and Hardware can supply agrifiber core wood doors. Agrifiber cores are a wheat based product. The wheat straw fiber has the lasting characteristics of wood because it is naturally resistant to decay. By using this readily renewable wheat based product instead of wood, this reduces the need to harvest naturally virgin forests
Walsh Door and Hardware is also an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) chain-of-custody certified supplier. We can supply wood door products from forests that use forest management practices and harvesting procedures to protect the biological diversity and ecological integrity of the forest.
We are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
In 2006, our main office in Des Moines went through a major remodel. We made the following energy improvements:
- Energy efficient lights were installed in the shop / warehouse area and office.
- Occupancy light sensors were installed in the office to automatically turn off lights in vacant rooms.
- Energy efficient heating and cooling units were installed for the office and shop areas.
In addition, we have also implemented the following energy saving techniques:
- Recycle scrap steel and used hollow metal doors.
- Recycle cardboard and office paper.
- Recycle wood pallets.
- Replaced weather-strip around our loading dock doors.
- Energy audit to find ways to further reduce our energy consumption.
